■　Although there are few more world premieres left, please describe any personal changes or insights you have experienced after the San Francisco,Los Angeles, New York, and Japan premieres?

The overall impression is how no matter what city we rolled into, there was a huge sense of community there tied to bikes, and people sharing this connection. Our friend in chicago put it this way. He saw what we were doing over the years, and how that differed from the velo circuit of friends. He compared it to how he used to go skate this ditch as a kid, and there would always be a few other kids there. That was the same thing. Kids finding each other through an outlet they shared respect for. Then he saw Chicago’s tricks and drinks night getting more popular, and that tied it together. People coming together for a common interest.

■　まだ残ってるんだけどSan Francisco/Los Angeles/New York/Japanとワールドプレミアが終わって身辺の変化ってありました？

全面的な印象はどの場所に行っても巨大な連帯感を感じたこと。バイクという一つの世界を共有する仲間。シカゴにいる友達は僕たちがしていることを見ていて、Veloサーキットの友達とは違うと感じたらしい。ガキの頃によくスケートしに行った溝には必ず他のやつらがいた。それとまったく同じこと。子供は自分と同じ趣味のやつらとつるむ。その後、彼はシカゴのトリックやお酒を飲みにいくことが流行りだしたことでわかったのが、人は共通の趣味で繋がるということ。

■　Compare to last year’s BFF, did you feel any change of fix culture within each cities?

Yea, huge strides since 2005. The first video we showed at bff in 05 was a 30 minute video that was a work in progress. The turnout was good, lots of friends from the messenger community, and some new faces also. We made a new 30 minute video for bff in 06. The turnouts were massive. In one year there was proof that tons of kids had got on bikes in the previous 11 months. We saw this in la, tokyo for sure. I think europe is feeling this happening this year. We look forward to what the future brings.

■　去年のBFFの時と比べて各都市でのFixカルチャーの変化って肌で感じましたか？

2005年に比べるとかなりの違い。2005年にBFFで初めて見せた30分ビデオはまだまだ未完成のものだった。その時の集まりはメッセンジャー・コミュニティーからの友達が多く、中には知らない人も数人。2006年のBFFにもまた新しい30分ビデオを作って、その時の集まりはもの凄かった。たった一年で大勢の子供たちがバイクに乗ったという証拠。LAでも東京でも同じ結果だった。ヨーロッパはどちらかというと今年変化が現れた感じ。どんな未来が待っているか楽しみだよ。

■　In the riders’scenes, were there any particular parts in the film that the riders’liked the best?

In the big picture, I think the taping process was good for everyone’s riding skill. To be able to watch each other ride, how they use the bike on the street, the lines they see, the routes they take all helped the quality of riding improve. We all experienced the same thing through this process.

■　ライダーパートの中でライダー達の中でベストパートってありますか？

この撮影プロセスはみんなのスキルに役立ったと思う。互いに乗っている姿を見て、ストリートでどんな風にバイクを使っているのか、どんなラインを見ているのか、どのルートを通るのかとかすべて乗車の質を上げている。僕たちみんなこのプロセスを通じて同じものを経験したと思う。

■　While filming were there any happenings or funny stories that you can share with us?

We feel like we kept in under control for the most part. A few major injuries, some broken bikes. We all learned a ton in the process, both about each other, and this common thread of time spent on the bike. There are a lot of inside jokes in the video, and I will always appreciate the insider looking out quality of the project, and at the same time am grateful for the intensely positive feedback we have all received worldwide from the end product/project.

■　撮影していて一番おもしろかった事やエピソードなんか教えて欲しいです。

まぁ、結構コントロールできていた方だと思う。少数の大怪我といくつかダメになったバイク。このプロセスのおかげでお互いのこと、そしてバイクという僕たちの共通点のことをもっと学んだ。ビデオの中には僕たちにしかわからないジョークが多いです。仲間で素晴らしい作品を作るために協力しあえたから本当によかった。そして何よりも世界中のみんなからの商品とプロジェクトに対するポジティブな感想にはすごく感謝しています。

■　Please tell us the number one exciting hill that you challenged in San Francisco.

Fillmore has a bad rap. Massan took some of the biggest in the film. Clipper from the top, and california from the top mid day. His riding inspires us all. It has been cool to see other kids making videos, and seeing their riding style completely lifted from massan’s approach. It’s very obvious to watch, and I hope he sees it as a head nod, and not a rip. Inspiring generations to come.

■　SFでボムした1番ヤバイ坂を教えて下さい。

Fillmoreはかなりヤバイ。フィルムの中で撮ったデカイ坂はほとんどMassanが制覇した。ClipperからCaliforniaまで、彼の乗り方には毎回みんな影響される。近くにいた子供たちも影響され、Massanに似たようなスタイルで乗っているところをビデオ撮影していた姿は面白かった。明らかに彼を真似しているのはわかる。これはすごく良いことだとMassanには理解してもらいたい。若い世代に影響と夢を与えているから。

■　The film started with the hill of Downtown, and went through twin peaks,Victorian houses, Golden Gate Park, and the bridge, which are all popular sightseeing destinations of San Francisco. Did you add these places to show everyone a glimpse of San Francisco?

The film covers most all of sf, We use the whole city in our day to day. Commuting, working, riding and racing. Some locations came off more scenic then others. We wanted the viewer to watch the video, and want to come ride in sf, so we hope we pulled that off.

■　本編ではDowntownの坂から始まってツインピークスやヴィクトリアハウスやゴールデンゲートパーク、ブリッジ、などなどSF観光名所的な映像が入っているんですが、それは少しSFをアピールするために入れたんですか？

フィルムの中は全部サンフランシスコ。通勤中、働いている時、バイクに乗っている時、レースをしている時に見るサンフランシスコを使いたかったんだ。中にはちょっと風景っぽくなっちゃった場面もあるけど、僕たちの目的はみんながこのビデオを見て「サンフランシスコで乗ってみたいな」と感じてもらいたかったのが最大の理由。

■　If the fix crashes with that velocity, there sure wouldn’t be anything left but parts of it. During the three years of filming, can you tell us the number of fix that were destroyed?

Demarco went through the most bikes in the last 3 years. He broke a khs flight, a kalavinka, and gabes pinerello. Andy broke a samson, igei broke a giro, I broke a bianchi concept, james broke 4 steel forks, emi broke 1 carbon fork, we all broke plenty of toe clips, straps, seats, wheels, bent bars, a mountain of tires, even some helmets. Like a skateboard, you go through bike parts. Most products are not made for this kind of abuse. It’s the price you pay to play.

■　あのスピードだとクラッシュしたらFixはひとたまりもないと思うんですが、今回の3年にも及ぶ撮影の中で何台ぐらいFixをダメにしましたか？

この3年間でDemarcoが一番バイクを壊したよ。彼がダメにしたバイクはKHS flite、Kalavinka、それとGabeのPinerello。Andyはsamson、Igeiはgiro、僕はビアンキコンセプト、Jamesはスチールフォーク４つ、それとEmiはカーボンフォーク１つ。みんなトウクリップ、ストラップ、シート、ホイール、ベントバー、タイヤの山、ヘルメットまでぶっ壊したよ。スケートボードがダメになるように、バイクのパーツも同じようにダメになる。殆どの商品はこんな激しいことするために作られたわけじゃないし。遊ぶためにはこれぐらいは予想しておかないと。

■　We’ve noticed that both riders and filmers are very creative. Please name all the members that have participated in this film. Also, can you please give us every detail in making this film work?

Everyone in the group has diverse interests. We all contributed to the end project. Gabe and myself filmed and shot photos for the book. James, demarco, andy and dirt also have photos in the book. Massan takes incredible photos, ben weiner designed the logo, and the book’s feel. Garrett layed out all the book and set all the type. Andy and jonathan were involved in some of the writing, justin and garrett wrote the into. Jonathan built the web site with gary from studio4nine, ben and garrett also designed most of the soft goods we produced to promote the project.

■　ライダーもフィルマーもみんなそれぞれクリエイティブな一面も持っていると思うんですが、今回のDVD製作に携わった人や製作の流れなんかを詳しく教えて下さい。

みんなそれぞれ色んな趣味をもってる。プロジェクトの最後はみんな参加しました。Gabeと僕は撮影、それと本のために写真を撮った。James、Ｄemarco、AndyとDirtも同じく写真を撮って本に載せた。Massanは本当に素晴らしい写真を撮るし、Ben Weiner はロゴと本をデザインした。Garrettは本のレイアウト、そしてすべてのタイプを設定してくれた。AndyとJonathanは所々の記述に参加したし、JustinとGarrettはイントロを書いてくれた。Jonathanはstudio4nineのGaryとウェブ制作をし、BenとGarrettもプロジェクトのプロモーショングッズをデザインしてくれました。

■　The DVD is released, what’s next? Please tell us MASH’s next step, new ideas or upcoming projects you are thinking of. Fans worldwide are anxious to know what you are planning on next.
